Diagnosis of Glomerulonephritis
There is always a possibility of glomerulonephritis in patients presenting with swelling of body usually seen over the feet or around the eyes (edema), high blood pressure and decreased urine output.
- The first test to do is urine examination for the presence of proteins and blood.
- Blood tests such as urea and creatinine to see the kidney functions.
- Ultrasound of the kidney to see the size and structure of the kidney.
- Kidney biopsy to determine the type of glomerulonephritis and then to lay out the treatment plan according to the type of inflammation.
